Maine – Montparnasse district
Design public spaces around Paris-Montparnasse.
AREP, in collaboration with Wagon Landscaping, Cronos Conseil and Repérage Urbain, is designing the redevelopment of public spaces around Montparnasse station in Paris. This ambitious project aims to transform the Maine-Montparnasse district by creating legible, accessible and user-friendly spaces, adapted to new traffic flows and uses.
At the heart of this initiative are intermodality and biodiversity, in line with the EMC2B approach. The project aims to promote low-carbon intermodality between different modes of transport, in particular rail, active mobility, innovative transport and public transport, thereby facilitating access to the station and the functionality of the district.
At the same time, AREP plans to plant this highly mineralised area, integrating bioclimatic spaces to encourage biodiversity. The design will endeavour to strengthen the ecological continuity between the 6th, 14th and 15th arrondissements, while respecting the constraints imposed by existing urban infrastructures.
Work will begin in 2025, starting with the reorganisation of rue Mouchotte, with full completion of the project planned for 2030. The project includes the creation of a linear garden, the planting of trees and the transformation of the station forecourt to make it more welcoming and user-friendly.
