Valorisation and reuse of railway artifacts
The research establishes an inventory of railway artifacts based on their spatiotemporal contexts of production and use: infrastructures (sleepers, ballast), mobile elements (coal, exotic wood), and the physical consequences of their use on the environment (smoke, vegetated surroundings).
It is divided into two parts:
First, the research inventories waste deposits — particularly wood — aiming to valorise them in the development and modernisation of railway stations. Applied to the stations of Béziers, Ivry, and Melun, it led to the prototyping of a floor that valorises the waste.
Second, it initiates the development of digital tools designed to facilitate the deconstruction of buildings and the recycling of materials. It is part of the European program Digital Deconstruction, which aims to support building deconstruction and material recycling through the development of digital tools. Using the example of Paris Nord station, a foundation of best practices has been identified. The modernisation of the Villeneuve Saint-Georges station served as a case study.
